Description
Representing the best fortress construction of the late Baekje Dynasty, this fortress was to form a defense line for the capital, Sabi, which is today's Buyeo. Located on Wolmyeongsan Mountain, Neungsan-ri of Buyeo, it is built along a ridge with earth and stone; the base of the wall is hardened clay, above which are layers of pressed rubble. Since the inside part of the wall was made with dirt dug from the adjoining strip, a trench was formed along the wall within the fortress. The inside shows sites of an observatory, a large military grain storage, the well called Bride's Wall, the Gyeongnyongsa and Uiyeolsa temples, and other buildings. This is the largest fortress in the Baekje Dynasty. Along with the Seokseongsanseong, Seongheungsanseong, and Jeungsanseong fortresses, it had been built to defend Buyeo.
