Description
To the south of the road crossing Yucheon-ri in the east-west direction, there are 40 kilns, with 10-odd kilns at the foot of the northern hill. Some of the ceramics were produced between the late 11th and the early 12th centuries, but mostly from the mid-12th to the early 13th centuries. The 12th kiln site, having the indication that in this place where shards of the best ceramic were found, along with and the kilm sites in Gangjin, Jeollanam-do Province, were the most famous producers of the world-renowned Goryeo (918-1392) celadon between the 11th and 14th centuries; when it comes to Goryeo white porcelain, however, the 12th kiln site has more in greater number and diversity. Various types of celadon have been excavated from the area including vases, wine bottles, jars, wine cups with stands, water pots, bowls, plates, and other items in plain celadon or decorated splendidly with marvelous floral, peony, clouds, cranes, animals, and other figures in inlay, under glaze iron, or under glaze copper. The kiln site in Yucheon-ri, following the site in Gangjin, produced the exquisite ceramic for the royal families and the noble of the Goryeo Dynasty thanks to the superior technique and quality clay.
