Description

As the outside military base for the capital of the Baekje, it was located at the top of Bongsusan Mountain, with the circumference of about 3km. It is assumed to have been built to protect against the intrusion of the Goguryeo. At present, the site of the wall gate, the gate for a streamlet to run below the wall gate, the site of a well, and the site of a building remain at present. The outside of the wall was piled up with well-trimmed stone in an orderly fashion, whereas the inside seemed to have been made like a ditch in digging out earth. Likewise, in order to reinforce the four corners of the wall strong, it was piled up two meters thicker than the other parts. After the Baekje vanished, this was the place witnessed lots of many resistance activities here and served as the last base of operation to restore the fortress wall of Sabi. Heukchisangji, as a leader of the restoration movement of the Baekje, hatched a plan but failed. This is a place with of a historical value, carrying the story of a battle between Wang Geon, the founder of the Goryeo Dynasty, and Gyeon Hwon in the later Three Kingdoms Period taking place here.
