This is the tomb of Yi Sun-sin, Chungmugong (1545-1598). He passed the military service examination and, after assuming several posts, served as Commander of the Naval Headquarters of Jeolla-do before the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592. He trained the army forces against Japan and made the turtle ship. When the Japanese army invaded, he repelled the enemy in several sea battle including Noryang, Dangpo, and Hansando Island and emerged victorious in many battles. Although he got shot to death by the enemy, until the last moment he kept it a secret and get his nephew to lead the army in his stead; thus the Japanese army was defeated and was forced to retreat. At first, the tomb was made in Geumseongsan Mountain of Asan-gun; 16 years later, however, it was moved to its present location during the sixth year of the reign of King Gwanghaegun (1614). Around the tomb are a table stone of the tomb on which food for a memorial service is put and honyuseok (rectangular stone table) on which the buried stays, hyangnoseok (stone incense table), pair of statues of a young boy, pair of stone pillars in front of a tomb, pair of stone statues, pair of stone statues of scholars, and tomb stele. In the front of the tomb is a house erected over a stele built in the 18th year of the reign of King Jeongjo (1794). A monument stands at the entrance of the tomb in commemoration of him.
