Description

This is the royal tomb where King Jinpyeong, the 26th king of Silla, is buried. King Jinpyeong boasts of several accomplishments. For one, he established the central administration to empower the royal authority. Second, he succeeded in guarding the country against the aggression by Baekje and Goguryeo with the benefits of diplomacy with the Sui and Tang dynasties of China. His last accomplishment, attested to by descendants, is working to guard the capital city by repairing the wall named Myeonghwalsanseong Fortress. The royal tomb is a circle ground mound with height of 7.9m and diameter of 36.4m. Its lower circumference is said to have been embosomed in the circle of natural stones, but few of the stones remain. The size of the tomb illustrates its status as a royal tomb, and its location in the center of the field makes it unique.
