Description
This is the tomb of King Hyogong of Silla, who reigned from 897 to 912. It is a circle grave mound with height of 5m and diameter of 21.2m. With several stones that used to be placed to protect the tomb at the bottom remaining, this carries a simple style without decoration. According to the history book Samguk sagi (History of the Three Kingdoms), the king was named Hyogong after his death and his funeral in the northern part of the temple called Sajasa. Contrary to such record, another famous history book, Samguk yusa (Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms), states that he was cremated in the same place described as the funeral place in Samguk sagi, and the ashes were buried next to a park named Gujijeui. The traces of a temple located south of this tomb are believed to be those of Sajasa Temple.
