Description
This is the cluster of royal tombs located in the western part. This spot was regarded as auspicious according to geomancy beliefs after King Sejo's son died. Buried here are King Deokjong, King Yejong, King Sukjong and his three wives, and King Yeongjo and his wife. This is the place that preserves the second biggest cluster of tombs. The title of a tomb varies according to the degree in the royal family of the person in the grave. The tombs of kings and queens are called neung and considered the highest. The tombs of the king's birth mother and the crown-prince's wife, princes, and princesses are called won or myo. Besides the five tombs, this cluster hosts other second-degree tombs such as that of King Myeongjong's son, that of Sunhoe, that of the crown-prince, and that of King Sukjong's famous concubine, Jang Hui-bin. This is the second biggest cluster of royal tombs of the Joseon Dynasty next to that located in Guri.
