Description

Sareung is the tomb where Queen Jeongsun, wife of King Danjong, the sixth king of Joseon, is buried. After King Danjong had been murdered by King Sejo, the queen never left home nor did she eat ant meat or fish. King Danjong's sister, Princess Gyeonghye, buried the queen, who did not have any son. King Sukjong restored her royal title when he did the same for King Danjong in 1698, the 24th year of his reign. Since then, the queen's tomb has been referred to as Sareung. The tomb does not have any stone screen or balustrade, but stone slabs in front and a three-sided-low fence outside. It was to show respect over the restoration that the tombs of this couple do not have any screen or balustrade but just animal statues. The stone lantern with a quadrilateral roof is shaped after one in Jangneung, and exhibits the style of the reign of King Sukjong.
