Description

This fortress is centered on the summit of Pasasan Mountain, and built along the ridgelines. The circumference is approximately 1800m in total and the fortress walls remain quite solid. It is believed to have been constructed in the Three Kingdoms Period. Having undergone many repairs, the sites of the East and the South Gates are preserved. Because a part of the fortress protrudes onto the bank of the Hangang River, it commands a good view of both the upper and the lower stream of the river, which makes it a strategic point in times of war. This fortress is also famous for an anecdote about Buddhist Monk Uiam, who recruited monk soldiers and fortified the fortress during the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592.
