Description

These are ruins from the New Stone Age located by the side of the Hangang River where the Achasanseong Fortress is seen across the river. 3 cultural layers were found here after excavation, and it was confirmed by radiocarbon dating that these ruins originated in 3000-4000 B.C. More than 20 sites of houses, attached facilities, and piles of stones were found here. A house site was formed by digging in a round or a square shape with rounded corners, at a length of 5-6 meters and a depth of 70-100cm. Traces of a fire pit in the stones at the center of the house were observed, and most of the entrances were facing the south. Each site usually has 4 pillar holes so it is assumed that pillars were fixed at each corner to support the roof. Many pieces of pottery, pointed at the bottom and with a comb pattern were excavated from the site, as well as stone axes, net sinkers, and burnt acorns. The site is typically one of New Stone Age ruins on the Hangang riverside, and is also important as the largest village site among the ruins of the New Stone Age in our country. On account of the many goods excavated from which we can see the living patterns of that time, this site is considered an invaluable source to assess the state of human culture in the New Stone Age.
