Description
This is a prehistoric ruin located in the Misa-ri area, Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do. It was first discovered in 1962, and it was excavated in 1980 by the joint research team from 4 universities in Seoul headed by Seoul National University. It consists of seven natural earth layers from the present surface, and the layers were found in the order of the Three Kingdoms period, the Bronze Age, and the New Stone Age. In the Bronze Age layer were found several pieces of pattern-less pottery, stone axes, stone chisels, stone net sinkers, and a house site of that time. In the New Stone Age layer, house sites, daily living necessities like pottery with a comb pattern, stone net sinkers, arrowheads and stone axes, and burnt acorns were found and collected. The date of the earth in the New Stone Age layer was estimated by radiocarbon dating as being 5253 years ago plus or minus 140 years. Because house sites and daily living appliances from each age were found here, and all these lie in the order of age, this site in Misa-ri is very important for the study of general Korean culture as well as for the study of the culture of the central region in the Prehistoric Age,
