Description

Built in the 2nd year of the reign of Yonghui, Emperor Sunjong of the Korean Empire, this was the main building of the Industrial Experimental Station when it opened in 1906 at the site of the Mechanical Experimental Station. It became the main building of the National Industrial Laboratory after liberation in 1945, and later the headquarters of the Korea National Open University, which it remains today. It is a two-story wooden building with German styled scale-like sidings on the outer wall, the outer appearance imitating the Renaissance style. It has an important value as one of the few remaining buildings designed by the Land Surveying Department in the last years of the Korean Empire period.
