Description

This is a 2-story building, designed by Park Dong-jin during the Japanese occupation. In 1917 this school, which had taught a middle school curriculum, was taken over by Kim Seong-su, who tried to rename it Baeksan School after the name of Baekdusan Mountain. But this plan was immediately deterred by the Japanese, and a new building was constructed under the name Jungang Middle and High School. It has an H-shaped plan, with the administration office in the central part of the 1st floor and the remaining space used as classrooms. The present building, which replaced with the former building that burned down in 1934, is a historic place which has produced many national leaders, and also was the institution that preserved the correct path of national education through the sorry years of Japanese rule in our country. This private school in an earlier modern building style is highly significant because it was designed by a Korean architect.
