Description
It is the remains of scholar Jo Sik in mid-Joseon, who was famous for the learning of Confucianism. Jo Sik was offered many positions, but he refused all of them and spent the rest of his life studying, nurturing students, and caring about people instead. After he died at the age of 72 in 1572, he was given the title Daesagan (Minister of the Department of Advisory Affairs) in Saganwon (Department of Advisory Affairs) and Prime Minster in 1615, the 7th year of the reign of King Gwanghaegun. In Sa-ri are Sancheonjae Confucian Academy, Byeolmyo Shrine, stele, and tombstone. Deokcheonseowon Confucian Academy and Sesimjeong Pavilion are located in Won-ri. As a place where scholars studied and researched, Sancheonjae was built in 1561, the 16th year of the reign of King Myeongjong, and repaired in 1818, the 18th year of the reign of King Sunjo. It consists of two rooms at the front and another two on the side. Deokcheonseowon was built in 1576, the 9th year of the reign of King Seonjo; the current building was repaired in 1926. It consists of five rooms at the front and two and a half rooms on the side. Sesimjeong Pavilion was built in 1582, the 15th year of the reign of King Seonjo.
