Description
This site is where the ceramics, tiles, vessel, etc., were baked. This is a large-sized pottery kiln site that baked celadon at a stretch of Jinsan-ri, Haenam in the early Goryeo period. About 100 pottery kiln sites lie on the hilly area abutting on the seashore, but it is impossible to confirm precisely because it was severely destroyed by the tide and ebb. Most of the kiln sites in other areas are located on land, but the kiln site in Jinsan-ri lies on a low hill abutting on the coast as its major distinguishing feature. The pieces of excavated ceramics have the characteristics of celadon in the early Goryeo period. The fact that soft and hard earthenware pieces together with celadon are being discovered attracts considerable attention. Moreover, celadon pieces in underglaze iron, whose kiln sites have not been clearly known till now, are being excavated together. This is enough to make it a valuable source of knowledge revealing the diverse products and relationship between earthenware and celadon around the neighboring kiln sites. The kiln site of celadon in Jinsan-ri is a sole source of data that can answer where the early production site was, which has been unknown till now. Moreover, it is an important material for determining the relationship between earthenware and Goryeo celadon and a valuable source of data for researching on the history of ceramics in our country.
