Description
This kiln site is located at the end of the mountain range stretching down south-west of Hambaksan Mountain. It corresponds to the Age of Goryeo with its huge sediment layer. The grooves of kiln, white porcelain pieces, celadon pieces, pieces of pottery, and work-related building site were discovered on the sediment layer. The brick and mud kilns were confirmed, with the brick kiln discovered for the first time in our country. The mud kiln, with length of 83m and 27 entrances, was excavated. The excavated relics include a variety of vessels, most of which are bowls with halo-shaped foot. The manufacturing period is estimated to range from the end of the 10th century to the early 12th century considering the bowls with halo-shaped foot. This plays an important role in investigating the occurrence and change of Goryeo white porcelain pieces because of the large sediment layer, brick and mud kilns, and pieces of white porcelain in various shapes and serves as important material contributing to the study of the history of Korean ceramics.
