Description
This tomb is made for Mrs. Gang, wife of Prince Sohyeon who was the eldest son of King Injo, the 16th king (1623~1649) of the Joseon Dynasty. She was called Minhoebin and was a 19th descendant of General Gang Gam-chan, one of the great heroes in Korean history. After the Manchu Invasion of Korea in 1636, she and her husband were detained in China, and they had to lead a difficult life there. When they were sent back to Korea, her husband passed away. After that, she was expelled from the court because some royal concubines including Mrs. Jo, King Injo's concubine, wrongly accused her of poisoning her husband and cursing royal families. Finally, she was sentenced to die through poisoning in 1646. In the 44th year of the reign of King Sukjong (1718), she was restored as a princess since she was found innocent. In the 7th year of the reign of King Gojong (1903), her tomb was ordered to be called Yeonghoewon. There are many stone decorations and constructions around her tomb, but no stele or t-shaped wooden shrine is left.
