Description
This is where white porcelain pieces for civilians were fired in the age of the Joseon Dynasty around the 16th-17th century. White porcelain for public use had a soft debut in the last years of the first half of the Joseon Dynasty, but it had been supplied in full scale by the middle age of the Joseon Dynasty. The kiln is about 23.5 meters long and 2.8 meters wide. Having a gentle slope, this kiln consisted of four firing rooms, a furnace, and four small windows. There is a building site where the porcelain pieces were formed and stored around the kiln site, with a piled layer of broken ceramic wares on the west side of the kiln. The main product was the traditional white porcelain in grayish white color or gray color, rather close to light blue. Majority of them were bowls, dishes, and implements used in daily life made with higher quality than those typically used by the public. It has a furnace in the north with a higher deck than the first firing room and a lower entrance as the specific character of this kiln. This type of kiln with such unique structure has never been found before this, serving as very important ruins with great scientific value for the study of local kilns.
