Description
This is a fortress built with stones piled up around the summit of the mountain. In particular, this fortress was flawlessly built by making use of the mountain's natural rough terrain. The northern, southern, and western sides of the fortress were piled up with stones that were cubically trimmed. According to Sinjeung dongguk yeoji seungnam (New Augmented Survey of the Geography of Korea), this fortress was 8 Korean feet tall and 1,950 Korean feet long. At the highest spot of the fortress is the command post; on the eastern side of the fortress is a beacon fire station. Also in the fortress are four wells that are still used at present. Several earthenware pieces and roof tiles have been found in the fortress, which had been a strategically important military base from the Three Kingdoms Period to the Joseon Dynasty. In particular, it was the last defensive military base of the Baekje Dynasty along with Hwangsanseong Fortress in Yeonsan, located on the borderline between the Silla and Baekje dynasties.
