Description
The prehistoric remains from the Paleolithic Age to the early Iron Age in Suyanggae, Jeokseong-myeon, Danyang-gun are scattered around the limestone ground and river. The limestone ground and the river were probably responsible for making this place the ideal environment for the prehistoric people to settle in, with various stone tools whose features show unique production skills excavated. In particular, the blade cores and stone spears with a hole for connecting a stick to it from the late Paleolithic Age are very valuable materials for comparative research on the late Paleolithic stone tools excavated from the remains in the northern region of China, southern region of Siberia, Japan, and Korea. Huge collective habitats have been found from the early Iron Age layer of earth, showing the unique housing site of the prehistoric times. The prehistoric remains are a very important material for research not only on the prehistoric culture of the Korean Peninsula but also on the cultural exchange among various prehistoric culture groups in Eastern Asia. They also give ideas for research on the culture and people's life in the Iron Age in Mainland China.
