Description

Placenta chamber refers to the special building or structure where the navel string of a newborn baby is placed. As a very famous general in the Silla Dynasty, Kim Yu-sin (595-673) played an important role in Silla's unification of the Three Kingdoms. This place was originally used as the official government building site where General Kim Seo-hyeon, father of Kim Yu-sin, worked as governor of Manno-gun. Located at the highest spot of Taeryeongsanseong Fortress, Kim Yu-sin's placenta chamber was built on a round stone pedestal and surrounded by a stone wall, boasting of its divinity. It is a mound-shaped structure -- the oldest form of placenta chamber -- built on a three-story reinforced stonewall with earth on it. Taeryeongsanseong Fortress behind the birthplace of Kim Yu-sin looks like a stone fortress wall protecting his placenta chamber, clearly showing the advanced fortification of the ancient Silla Dynasty.
