Description
The Ancient Tombs in Bongdeok-ri, Gochang consist of four tombs, of which Tomb No. 1 has the largest burial mound in Jeollabuk-do Province. Diverse relics including gilt-bronze shoes were found in Stone Chamber No. 4 of Tomb No. 1, proving that the occupant of the tomb was the highest-ranking person in the area at that time. These ancient tombs are not only invaluable cultural assets but also highly useful resources for academic research on the relationship between the central and regional governments of the Baekje Kingdom around the fifth century and the kingdom’s exchanges and relationships with China and Japan.
