Description
The poison bulbs are found in Japan, China, India, Malaysia, and Korea, and usually grows in areas with an average temperature of 15℃ and a minimum temperature of -3.5℃. Its flowers are white and bloom from July to September, reaching full bloom during the night and exuding a strong fragrance. In Korea it is only found in sandy places on Tokkiseom Island (near Jejudo Island), which is surrounded by rocks and situated some 50km from the coast at Hado-ri. At one time this area was seriously damaged, but these plants are now growing densely in most of the areas due to preservation efforts. The Natural Habitat of the Poison Bulbs on Tokkiseom Island, Jeju marks the northernmost extent of its dispersion. It has been designated as Natural Monument (No.19) for its protection.
