Description

Nut-bearing torreya is distributed in Japan and Korea. It grows at the southern area of the Naejangsan Mountain in Korea. Because of its beautiful outlook, it is planted nearby the villages. The seed of this tree is used as a medical treatment and the oil. The Nut-bearing torreya in Imhoe-myeon is about 600 years old and its trunk is 12 meters and its girth is 6.35 meters. As the branches grow up thickly, it provides a shady resting place. People said that this tree was located in a compound of the Guamsa Temple about 1000 years ago and they won't be hurt even if they fell down this tree. Since it is biologically valuable, the tree is designated and protected as a natural monument.
