Description

The camphor tree is distributed in Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, China, and Korea. The camphor trees in Dosun-ri grow wild at the steep slope beside the stream about 2 km away from Dosun-dong, Jeju-do. Since the upper area of the slope is a flat area, and there is no tree, it acts as a boundary between the stream and the field. According to legend, if a patient lies on the branches and leaves of a camphor tree, he or she can be healed. If the tree is planted in the house, it can ward off evil spirits. Since the Natural Habitat of Camphor Trees in Dosun-ri is the northernmost habitat where it can grow wild and is valued highly, it is designated and protected as a Natural Monument.
