Description

Gossigul Cave, which means the cave of Go's family, is located in Jinbyeol-ri, Hadong-myeon, Yeongwol-gun. The name “Gossigul” stemmed from the fact that Go's family hid in and escaped to this cave during the Japanese Invasion of Korea. This cave has total length of 3 kilometers and shape of a letter “W.” Formed about 4-5 hundreds million years ago, it consists of limestone. Its temperature inside is more or less 15℃, and the temperature of the water in the cave is about 5.3℃. In this cave are many stalactites hanging from the roof of the cave and stalagmites coming up from the floor of the cave. Gossigul Cave is designated and conserved as a natural monument because there are various cave formations and many extraordinary cave creatures therein.
