Description
The Bird Tracksite in the Haman Formation in Yongsan-ri, Chilwon-myeon, Haman-gun is 12 kilometers away from Masan. It is found on the Haman Chalk Bed formed in the Cretaceous Period. There are fossilized footprints of a bird named Koreanaornis hamanesis and fossilized footprints of Jindong birds and titanosaurs. Most of the footprints are those of the Koreanaornis hamanesis, with the footprints of Jindong birds and titanosaurs deemed exceptional. Since dinosaurs propagated in large quantities in the Cretaceous Period, great numbers of fossilized dinosaur footprints have been reported all over the world. Rarely have fossilized bird footprints been discovered. The Bird Tracksite on Haman Layer is the second researched and announced fossilized bird footprints in the world. Therefore, these have been designated and protected as a Natural Monument for its great value as geological and biological data.
