Description
The Eoreumgol Ice Valley in Nammyeong-ri, Miryang is located at the mid-slope of Cheonhwangsan Mountain. Except for the southern side, its three sides form cliffs, and this valley looks toward the north. Ice is formed on this valley from the middle of June. From the end of July to early August, lots of ice form on this valley. Ice starts to melt from fall, thawing during winter. The mountain stream does not freeze in winter because warm air comes out from the crack in a rock where ice had been formed. This phenomenon is caused by many cracks made in rocks and is called the “mystery of Miryang.” Although a rare case, it was also found in Pocheon, Danyang, and Uiseong. The natural phenomenon of the ice valley in Nammyeong-ri is extraordinary, but it can be easily destroyed artificially. Therefore, this valley is designated and conserved as a Natural Monument.
