Description

"A wisteria belongs to the bean family. The flowers of this tree come out from the end of its branches in May and have maroon or white color, and they are very beautiful and fragrant. This tree usually serves as a shady resting place with its thick vines in summer. The wisteria in Samcheong-dong is about 900 years old, with its root having circumference of 2.42m. It is located in the official residence of the prime minister and is well-cultivated. The main branch from the root grows by branching into many pieces. The lower part of the main branch has circumference of 2.2 meters. This tree has undergone surgery because the upper part of a branch lying on the ground had rotten. The inside of the official residence is restricted to the public, so this tree is well cultivated and preserved. The wisteria in Samcheong-dong has been preserved by Korean ancestors' care and concern and has been designated and conserved as a Natural Monument, serving as historical data for biological research."
