Description

Nut-bearing torreya grows in Japan and southern part of Naejangsan Mountain in Korea. It is planted often nearby a village because of its beautiful shape, and the seeds are used as medicinal materials or oils. The tree is about 300 years old, with height of 19m and girth of 3.85m and its branches spread toward all directions. During the Joseon Dynasty, this tree was at the entrance of the Gonyang-gun office but now the tree stands inside the Gonyang-myeon office. This tree was known to be female but has sprouted male flowers recently. Since the Nut-bearing torreya of Seongnae-ri is biologically valuable and has been preserved well for a long time, it is designated and conserved as a Natural Monument.
