Description

The Multi-stem Pine is a kind of pine tree but a little different from other kinds of pine trees in shape. With the tree branching into many pieces at the base, the main branch is indistinguishable from the branches. Its overall appearance also resembles an unfolded umbrella. The tree grows in Boanmaeul (village) and is about 350 years old, with height of 14m and girth of 6.55m. According to tradition, this tree was transplanted to its present location by Mr. Yi Ju-sik who lived in this town about 150 years ago. This tree has also been called Gucheonsong, meaning the pine that symbolizes Gucheon-dong (village), and Manjisong meaning the pine with a lot of branches. Since the multi-stem pine of Samgong-ri is remarkable for its appearance and biologically valuable, it is designated and conserved as a Natural Monument.
