Description
The Weeping Pine Tree of Dongsan-ri has branches drooping downward and stands beside the road leading to Unmunsa Temple. It is about 200 years old, with height of 13.6m and girth of 2.04m. Its appearance is very unique and beautiful because of the branches. As the branches grow downward naturally like a willow, the tree is called Yusong, meaning pine tree that looks like a willow. According to tradition, when a minister passed by this tree, it lowered its branches as if bowing to him; the branches have never risen since then. In addition, because there is a tomb of Goseong Yi clan near the tree, it is presumed be related to the clan and is also regarded as a holy tree. Since the weeping pine tree of Dongsan-ri has unique appearance and is biological value, it is designated and protected as a Natural Monument.
