Description

The Chinese Juniper grows on Ulleungdo Island, in the mid-southern part of Korea, and in Japan. Since Chinese Juniper has a strong smell, this tree is used as incense for ceremonies and it is often planted in the garden or in the park. This Chinese juniper of Bongsan-dong is about 400 years old, with height of 3.2m and girth of 2.84m. Due to the lack of enough space for this tree to grow, the stalks of this tree are twisted and shaped like a dragon. Choe Jung-ryong, who was a member of Ganghwa Choe Clan, planted this Chinese Juniper. He planted this Chinese Juniper in memory of his father. Since the Chinese Juniper of Bongsan-dong, Yeongi is biologically valuable and has been preserved by our descendants for a long time, it is designated and protected as a Natural Monument.
