Description
Gwaneumsong Pine Tree grows in Cheongnyeongpo Harbor, Yeongwol. It is about 600 years old, with height of 30m high and girth of 5.19m. Its trunk is divided into two parts at a height of 1.6m: One is tilted upward, and the other is tilted to the west. Cheongnyeongpo Harbor is the place where Danjong, the 6th king of the Joseon Dynasty, was exiled. While in exile, he spent time sitting on the area where the trunk of the tree is divided into two parts. Villagers regard it as a village guardian because they have believed that every time something unexpected happened, the tree changed its color and warned of the coming disaster. Since the Gwaneumsong pine tree in Cheongnyeongpo is biologically and historically valuable, it is designated and protected as a Natural Monument.
