Description
The pine tree of Seowon-ri stands on the road beside Samgacheon Stream and Seowon-ri in the southern part of Songnisan Mountain. It is presumed to be 600 years old, with height of 15.2m and girth of 5m. The branch is divided into two and its overall appearance resembles an unfolded umbrella. People say that this tree and Jeongipumsong (Pine Tree with Rank of Second-Grade Official) in Songni are spouses. The latter is a man because it is straight in one branch, whereas the former is a woman because it looks more beautiful. Since the pine tree of Seowon-ri is biologically valuable and has long been worshipped by the local community as a village guardian, it is designated and protected as a Natural Monument.
