Description

Hyojasong in Okdang-ri, Jangheung is a pine tree growing in the rice field at the foot of a mountain. It is about 150 years old, with height of 12m and girth of 4.5m. According to legend, 150 years ago, there were three young men who were very faithful to their mother. On a hot summer day, seeing their mother sweating under the sun, they decided to make a shade for her. Thus, each of them planted a pine tree, a persimmon tree, and an Indian Quassiawood. Only the pine tree survived and grew well. The Hyojasong Pine Tree in Okdang-ri, Jangheung, has been a symbol of filial piety for 150 years.
