The Chinese Egret is a rare seasonal bird that breeds in the temperate parts of East Asia, Manchuria, eastern parts of China, and Korea. More than half of the world population inhabits Korea. The whole body is white and the skin protruding above the eyes is green while the beak and feet are yellow. This bird is characterized by ornamental plumage. The Black-tailed Gull breeds in Korea, Japan, southern parts of Primorsky Kray and on the shores of China. This bird inhabits the shores of Korea and its beak and feet are yellow. On the end of its beak is a red and black line. Its back and wings are dark gray, and the tip of the wings is black. The body is white, and on the end of its tail is a black line. This bird feeds on fish, amphibians, reptiles, and insects in shallow water. The Breeding Ground of Chinese Egrets and Black-tailed Gulls on Sindo Island is 20.5km east from Jangbong-ri, Ongjin-gun, Gyeonggi-do. The Chinese Egret inhabits the areas from the slanted rocky sides to the peak. It makes a coarse nest with dried Artemisia scoparia and lays 3~5 eggs. Since the Breeding Ground is the largest habitat of Chinese Egrets and Black-tailed Gulls in Korea, it is designated and protected as a Natural Monument.
