Description
A black-tailed gull is usually seen on the shores or where there is a fishing boat. Because it feeds on fishes or garbage from ships, it is sometimes called a port scavenger. It is also called a school detector, because it flies following the schools of fish in the ocean. The Chinese Egret breeds in Korea, China, and Taiwan. It frequents paddy fields, marshes, and other wetland environment. It is currently in danger of extinction, however. The black-faced spoonbill, a rare species, breeds in Korea and China and inhabits marshes, lakes, and harbors. The Black-tailed Gull, Chinese Egret, and Black-faced Spoonbill Breeding Site in Chilsando Island of Yeonggwang consists of 7 uninhabited islands. Since these islands are in the front sea of Chilsan, they are called Chilsando Island. Among Chilsando Island, which has lots of slanting rocks, five of the seven islands have plants on them. The main plants are Autumn Elaeagnus, Euonymus japonicas, and reeds. Also on the islands are Mallotus japonicuses and Autumn Elaeagnus living in a group. The Black-tailed Gulls and the Egrets inhabit this place, with the black-faced spoonbill inhabiting the cliff. The Black-tailed Gull, Chinese Egret, and Black-faced Spoonbill Breeding Site in Chilsando Island of Yeonggwang is the largest habitat of the kinds. Having been recognized as important material for studying these birds' lives, it is designated and protected as a Natural Monument.
