Description

Mudcracks and Stromatolites are located at the cliff near Yeondeokcheon Stream in Mungok-ri, Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do. These are formed in the Ordovician period about 400 - 500 million years ago. The mudcrack is a geological structure made by sediments piled on a shallow, and indicates that the region was underwater in the old days. The Stromatolite and Dry structure in Mungok-ri, Yeongwol show the environment of drifts in those days. Therefore, these have been designated and protected as a Natural Monument for their scientific value.
