Description
An uninhabited island, Jangguseom has large amounts of well-preserved Cretaceous fossils including fossils of bivalves such as Trigonioides and Plicatounio naktongensis, and footprints of ornithopods, and bipedal or quadrupedal plant-eating dinosaurs. The island has also produced crocodile skull fossils, duckbill dinosaur teeth fossils, turtle shell fossils and trace fossils of various invertebrate animals. In particular, the duckbill dinosaur teeth on this island are the first teeth of herbivorous ornithopods ever found in Korea. The primitive crocodile skulls found here are also the most perfectly preserved fossils of any terrestrial vertebrates ever discovered in the country. All these fossils have been evaluated as highly important materials for the study of natural history.
