Description
Saw-leaf Zelkova in Goegok-dong in Daejeon has long been revered by the local community of Goegok-dong as a sacred guardian of their district. In the past, annual sacrificial rites were held every seventh day of the seventh lunar month, during which all the community members gathered together to pay homage to the guardian tree. The close connection of the tree with folk culture, combined with its old age, large size, and majestic appearance, earned it the designation as a Natural Monument by the Korean government.
