Description
Korea has a long tradition of using Celadonite to make the green pigment traditionally used for the colorful architectural decorative patterns called Dancheong. The Celadonite Quarry in Noeseongsan Mountain in Janggi-myeon of Pohang is known as the only quarry producing Celadonite in South Korea, providing a useful clue for expanding geological knowledge of the Korean Peninsula. The quarry is also a valuable historical and cultural heritage, providing Dancheong pigment to decorate important architectural works of state institutions such as palaces, shrines, and fortress gatehouses.
