Description

The fossil site in Sanbuk-dong, Gunsan contains a variety of fossil remains and tracks left by dinosaurs, including pterosaurs. It is the first site of its kind to have been discovered in the Jeollabuk-do area, and is widely regarded as a valuable source of palaeo-biogeographic and palaeo-environmental knowledge about the Korea Peninsula in the age of dinosaurs. The site boasts a high concentration and diversity of fossil footprints, including well-preserved fossilized tracks of large theropods and the largest fossilized footprints of a Caririchnium discovered in Korea to date. These paleontological remains are an important source of information that will broaden our knowledge and understanding of the dinosaurs of the Cretaceous Period and the palaeo-environment.
