Description

Written in the early Joseon Period, these documents were for Yi Jeon-saeng, founder of Yangsan Yi’s Clan, Yi Jing-seok, Yi Jing-ok, and Yi Jing-gyu, three famous commanders of this family, and Yi Mong-ran, eldest son of a direct descendant. There are 16 documents of 6 different kinds, including Yi Jeon-saeng’s writ of appointment, four writs related to Jing-seok, a message for the benefit of the commander, three royal edicts of bestowing land and servant, and a message posthumously appointing Jing-seok as government official. The documents also include the royal edict issued to Pal-dong, eldest son of Jing-seok, the certificate issued to Mong-ran for passing the military examination, and the royal certificate of Meritorious Subject issued to Mong-ran in recognition of his remarkable achievement during the Japanese invasion in the late 16th century. The sizes of these documents varied depending on the year and contents. Preserved by the Yi Family, these documents provide important historical information on studying the old documents of the early Joseon Dynasty.
