Description
A gilt-bronze crown unearthed from No. 32 Tomb of Jisan-dong Tumuli, Goreyong was unearthed in 1978. The relics unearthed together with it tell us it dates from the 5th Century (the DaeGaya Period). They beat copper plate repeatedly to turn it into a thin sheet and galvanized it. It did not use a”出”-shaped form ordinarily used for a gilt-bronze crown during the Three-Kingdoms Period. This one displays a very unique shape – a “X”-shape made of lots of points on a wide plate in the center. There have been only a few cases of gilt-bronze crowns dating from Gaya and thus this one is a very rare one. Compared to those dating from Silla and Baekje, this one displays a uniquely simplistic, but refined taste. Overall, this crown deserves to be designated as Treasure as one representing DaeGaya of the 5th/6th Century.
