Description
This ewer (height: 26㎝, mouth diameter: 3.7㎝, bottom diameter: 7.8㎝, lid height: 4.8㎝), made in the Goryeo Period (918-1932), has a vine-patterned knob on the lid, mouth, and convex upper side. A protruding stripe surrounds the waist between the upper and lower sides of a gourd-shaped object. The lower side of the gourd looks somewhat stretched downward. The glazed surface shows a slightly dark green color, with parts of the upper side having a primrose yellow color. The lid is engraved with a lotus pattern. The upper side of the gourd coming in contact with the lid is inscribed with a cloud-shaped design. An inlaid circle line filling the entire space of the lower side of the gourd is filled with white and purple clay. A pair of parrots is depicted within the circle, with a cloud-shaped pattern inlaid between the parrots. Inscribed below the spout and the handle are patterns of lotus leaves and willow twigs. The parrot design inlaid on the surface of the lower side of the gourd distinguishes this one from bowls made in the 12th Century, which generally have parrot patterns on the inner surface or the lid.
