Description

Hamokjeong Pavilion is a type of separate house that was built by Yi Jongmun (pen-name: Nakpo/1566-1638) around 1604. Overall, it is a “丁”-shaped structure with a wooden floor measuring 3 kan by 2 kan, and rooms measuring 1 kan by 4 kan closely placed. The pavilion is particularly rare for two reasons, first, its “丁”-shaped structure, and second, the fact that it was built for both master and servants. It is also unique in terms of its spatial configuration, detailed construction techniques, and external designs, making it valuable from a historic, architectural, and academic perspective.
