Description
This horn cup has height of 17 cm and mouth diameter of 5.3 cm. The tip of this cup is painted in black to make it look more realistic. The cup is made from pure white clay, and its surface is evenly painted with white porcelain glaze with blue tone. This cup is presumed to have been made at a kiln located in Beoncheon-ri or Gwaneum-ri of Gwangju. The origin of the horn cup can be traced to the ox horn-shaped pottery cups found in the ancient tombs of Gaya and Silla during the Three Kingdoms’ Period. Ox horn-shaped celadon cups were also produced during the Goryeo Period; therefore, this type of cup seems to have been produced for a very long time. This white porcelain horn cup was produced in the early Joseon Period.
