Description
The Five-story Stone Brick Pagoda in Hyeonri is thought to have been built in the later Unified Silla or early Goryeo period. It displays the characteristic style of stone brick pagodas commonly found in Gyeongsangbuk-do. One particular feature of the brick towers and stone brick pagodas built in Gyeongsangbuk-do is the presence of a shrine in one side of the first tier of the body of a tower or pagoda. This pagoda is also notable for the vine pattern carved on the gate posts on both sides of the shrine. One can also sense the effort made to soften the overall shape of the structure by trimming rounded edges on the stones placed at the corners.
