Description

Yeonsujeon Hall of Gounsa Temple is the only extant building to retain its original form as a structure built to commemorate a king of Joseon’s admission to the Giroso (Office of Senior Royal Aides Aged 70 or more). Its walls and other features are decorated with dancheong (a traditional Korean style of decorative painting applied to wooden buildings and artifacts) in five colors, giving it a highly attractive, almost silky appearance. The hall, which contains many paintings symbolizing the imperial family of the Korean Empire, has historic value as it reflects some of the changes made to traditional monuments that informs the protocols of the Royal Family and to architecture and royal tombstones dating from the same period.
